Passer Montanus was a drawing I made in 2013 while I was living in downtown Boise, Idaho. It was a Sunday morning, I was sitting at Goldies Corner, and the city seemed empty.
Sitting out front of the cafe in the summer heat, sweating off the prior nights wine, I found myself surrounded by a lot of brave little birds. Apparently they were named Passer Montanus. But I ended up drawing one (using a photo reference) with a ball-point pen. I tried to only use vertical lines.
I ended up needed money shortly after drawing it and as an experiment listed it on eBay. My parents got into a bidding war with someone over it and won, so it’s framed and displayed in their kitchen currently.
